My whole system crashes and the screen goes a random color when I let Windows 7 try and detect my hardware etc. on my network in the Pearl -> Devices and Printers. Complete system lock up, no mouse or keyboard input.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 w/ AMD Mobile Sempron 3500+ 1.8Ghz Processor, 1.5GB RAM, 256MB ATI X1150.

The issue you're facing with your system crashing when Windows 7 tries to detect hardware could be related to driver conflicts, hardware issues, or compatibility problems. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this issue: 1. Update Drivers: Ensure that all your device drivers are up to date, especially the graphics card driver and motherboard chipset drivers. Visit the Dell support website to download and install the latest drivers for your hardware. 2. Hardware Check: Run hardware diagnostic tests on your system to check for any hardware issues. Dell systems usually have built-in diagnostics that can be accessed during boot. 3. Compatibility Mode: If you suspect compatibility issues, try running...

3. Compatibility Mode: If you suspect compatibility issues, try running the Devices and Printers detection process in Compatibility Mode. Right-click on the Devices and Printers shortcut, go to Properties, and navigate to the Compatibility tab to run it in compatibility mode for an earlier Windows version. 4. Safe Mode: Try booting your system into Safe Mode and see if the issue still occurs. If not, it could indicate a software conflict. You can then start troubleshooting by disabling startup programs or services. 5. Check Event Viewer: Look in the Windows Event Viewer for any error messages or warnings that might provide more details about the crash. This can help pinpoint the cause of the problem. 6. System Restore: Consider using System Restore to roll back your system to a point before the crashes started happening. This can help if the issue was caused by recent software changes. 7. Clean Boot: Perform a clean boot to start Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This can help identify if a third-party driver or application is causing the crash. By following these steps and potentially identifying any specific error messages or patterns in the crashes, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the issue of your system crashing during hardware detection in Devices and Printers on Windows 7.
