Windows Vista DVD/CD-ROM Drives Not Working After Automatic Update

I lost the use of both the Hp and Plextor dvd/cd-rom drives. could this be due to an automatic update?

Dude, I just finised wiping out Windows Vista from my computer. It's way too slow (takes too much resources) and you can hardly play games on it. Well, that's the reason it's called BETA version, we are the lab rats. Screw it, i'm going back to XP!!! Cioa!!!
