I had a BSOD pop up, the first on this machine, which indicated this error. I rebooted, and everything runs fine, until I tried to run Skyrim. The game froze during the loading screen, and after a hard re-start, I checked the Event Viewer. There were 1500+ items describing that same error, and the number has climbed to 2254 items while I typed this comment.

I researched about most of the computer hardware before I purchased this system, but I truly know absolutely nothing about hard drives. I have a 2tb HDD, and a 40gb SSD for Rapid Response, um, thingy. Is the hard drive going out? How can I test it?

Experiencing a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) and continuous errors related to storage in the Event Viewer can indeed indicate potential issues with your hard drive. To determine if your hard drive is failing, you can perform some tests to check its health and performance. Here are some steps you can take to test your hard drive:

Checking Hard Drive Health:

  1. Check SMART Data:
    • SMART (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) data provides information about your hard drive's health. You can use tools like CrystalDiskInfo or HWMonitor to check SMART data.
    []Disk Error Checking:

    []Disk Error Checking:
    • Use the built-in Windows tool called "Check Disk" to scan and repair disk errors. You can run this tool by opening Command Prompt and typing chkdsk /f followed by the drive letter (e.g., chkdsk /f C: for the C drive).

      Testing Hard Drive Performance:

    ]Benchmarking Tools:
    • Tools like CrystalDiskMark or AS SSD Benchmark can be used to test the read and write speeds of your hard drive.
  2. Disk Health Testing Software:
    • Programs like Western Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnostics or Seagate SeaTools can perform comprehensive tests on your drive to check for any issues.

      Recommendations:

    • Backup your Data:
    • Before running any tests or maintenance tasks, ensure that you have a backup of your important data to prevent data loss in case of hard drive failure.
    • Consider Upgrading:
    • If your hard drive is showing signs of failure, consider upgrading to a new drive (or SSD) to improve system reliability. Would you like assistance in running any specific tests on your hard drive to further diagnose the issue? Let me know if you need help with any particular tool or process.
