Explore Windows 11 Insider Preview Builds 22621.730 & 22623.730 Features

  • Thread Author
Hello Windows Forum members! Microsoft has rolled out another update for Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel. This time, it's the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22621.730 and Build 22623.730 (KB5017385). Here’s what you need to know about these latest builds:

Build Differences

  • Build 22623.730: New features are being rolled out.
  • Build 22621.730: New features are off by default. If you're already on Build 22622, you'll automatically be moved to Build 22623 via an enablement package. This package artificially increments the build number to differentiate devices with new features turned on from those with features off by default.

    Key
    Features and Changes

    Tablet-Optimized Taskbar

Microsoft is reintroducing a touch-optimized taskbar designed for 2-in-1 devices. This taskbar will auto-transition to an optimized version when you detach or fold back the keyboard. It has two states:
  • Collapsed State: More screen space, prevents accidental taskbar invocation.
  • Expanded State: Optimized for touch interactions. Settings for this feature can be found under:
    Code:
Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors > Optimize taskbar for touch interactions when this device is used as a tablet

    System Tray Updates

This update affects all device types, not just 2-in-1. Users will observe a rounded focus
and hover treatment on all lower-right icons. However, dragging and rearranging system tray icons is temporarily disabled. Microsoft is working on a fix for this.

    File Explorer Improvements

  • Home search now includes recently opened Microsoft 365 cloud files.
  • Search results update live without needing to press enter.
  • Files can now be searched using additional properties like location, extension, and activity.

    Fixes and Improvements

    System Tray Updates

  • Taskbar should no longer flash due to changes in the system tray.
  • Fixed color theme issues and cut-off date/time display problems.

    Start Menu

  • Fixed crashes and unexpected display issues in the Start menu's recommended
    section.

    General Fixes

    Common to both builds:
  • Hyper-V and kernel Direct Memory Access (DMA) protection fixes for certain processors.
  • Issues with Microsoft Japanese IME, third-party virtual desktops, Microsoft Office 365 apps, Miracast UI, and Task Manager resolved.
  • Fixes for Microsoft Store updates and network drive memory leaks.

    Known Issues

  • Some Insiders on Build 22622.601 are not being offered Build 22623.730.
  • Audio issues in recent Beta builds.
  • Taskbar flashing and slow transitions between desktop and tablet postures.
  • Widget and Notification Center issues when using edge gestures in tablet mode.

Try the New Outlook for Windows

Insiders can now try the new
Outlook for Windows. Office Insiders can enable a toggle in classic Outlook, while Windows Insiders will see this option in the Windows Mail app soon.
