Hey W7F,

I am using Build 7022 of Win7. I had some guests stay at my house, so I locked Guests from accessing specific Program Files. Now, Iwant to remove the programs (adobe CS4) altogether, and Adobe uninstaller crashes under any user, including admin. So I think, i'll just manually uninstall. I go to delete the program files, says I need Admin access. I go to Admin, says I need User access. Is here a way to get around this? Does Linux recognize the permissions, or can I delete from there?

Solution
It seems like you are facing a challenging situation with trying to uninstall Adobe CS4 on Windows 7 Build 7022 due to permission issues. Let's address these issues step by step:

1. Manual Uninstallation of Adobe CS4:

Since the Adobe uninstaller is crashing under all user accounts, including the admin account, manual uninstallation might be the way to go. To bypass the permission roadblocks, you may need to follow these steps:
  • Take Ownership of the Program Files Folder:
    • Right-click on the Adobe CS4 installation folder (usually located in "C:\Program Files" or "C:\Program Files (x86)").
    • Select "Properties" and go to the "Security" tab.
    • Click on "Advanced" and then on the "Owner" tab to change the owner to...

    • Select "Properties" and go to the "Security" tab.
    • Click on "Advanced" and then on the "Owner" tab to change the owner to your current user account.
    []Grant yourself Full Control:
    • In the Security tab, click on "Edit" and then on your user account.
    • Check the box for "Full Control" to give yourself full permissions.
    [
    ]Delete Adobe CS4:
    • Now try to delete the Adobe CS4 folder. You should have the necessary permissions to proceed.

      2. Linux as an Alternative:

If you are unable to delete the folder even after taking ownership and granting Full Control, you can try accessing the Windows drive from a Linux Live CD.
    []Linux Permissions:
    • Linux might not directly recognize Windows permissions, but as a Live CD environment usually runs with full read/write access, you should be able to delete the Adobe CS4 folder from there.
    [
    ]Using Linux Live CD:
    • Boot your computer from a Linux Live CD.
    • Locate the Windows drive where Adobe CS4 is installed.
    • Delete the Adobe CS4 folder from the Windows drive.

      Final Note:

Before proceeding with any manual deletion, ensure you have a backup of important data. Deleting system files or folders manually can potentially cause issues if not done correctly. It's always best to uninstall software using the manufacturer's recommended method. Try these steps cautiously, and see if you can successfully remove Adobe CS4 from your system.
