When I opened this morning, I found the top advert was obscuring the drop downs?

no such problem here - drop menus open in front of the banner ad

I didn't have that problem, so that is weird.

Not so weird. I have discovered it is because, for personal reasons, I have IE running in compatibility mode.
The thread is solved as far as I am concerned.

I had noticed the same problem. It also appears the forums have been removed from the compatibility view list - as I no longer have the button. Guess the site is all up-to-date on web standards.

Sorry for posting in your closed thread, just had to give it my two cents
