From Vista to Windows 7: Office 2003 compatibility

Hi,

I have a Compaq dual-core notebook with Vista Home Basic as operating system: needless to say, I have been experiencing performance problems since the early months after the purchase (2007).
I expanded its RAM capability up to 2 GB (the maximum allowed) but it's still slow: working with more than a couple of applications often causes errors and Internet browsing is sometimes jerky.
I'm thinking of upgrading to WIndows 7 but I'm concerned about its compatibility with Office 2003 Professional: I have the Standard Pack 3 and I use it for work and study (I'm busy with Microsoft Office Specialist Certification and I need a fully functional pc to complete it in a reasonable time).
Ditto for Acrobat Reader/Professional which I use extensively for converting .doc files into attachable pdfs.
What should I expect from the upgrade? Should I wait some more, at least until SP1 will be released? Suggestions?

Thank you for the kind help!

Paolo

Windows 7 is compatible with Office 2003. You may need to reinstall Office 2003 after upgrading Vista to 7.

You may need to reinstall some software and drivers after the upgrade.

It is recommended to upgrade a fresh clean install of Vista. Upgraded 7 works a little slower than 7 clean installed.

Home premium or professional: which one to chose?

Which version would you suggest me to get the best bang for my buck? If price difference is not that large, I'd say the Professional is the way to go (if i'm not wrong, it has an interesting feature for simulating Windows Xp).
If this is the case, what are the basic hardware requirements for the upgrade?

Thank you

Paolo
