Llano APU that is

Llano Fusion chip might be the first chip to support USB 3.0 at least from the AMD side. It is quite clear that mid-2010 Southbridge SB850 supports only USB 2.0 and it will take at least a year to get the new one out, the one that might support USB 3.0.

AMD didn’t communicate this outside the company, at least not to many people but we found that Hudson M2, the Southbridge of Llano APU indeed supports USB 3.0.

The chipset can support a whopping 16 USB ports as well as 6 SATA ports, Raid, 4 PCIe slots and an integrated clock generator. This chipset is likely to be the same for both mobile and desktop versions of Llano.

It looks like 2011 will be a good year for wide USB 3.0 penetration, but until then you will have high end motherboards, most likely some new notebooks as well with USB support courtesy of third party USB 3.0 chips.

It is not known when SB850 get its replacement as it looks like AMD 890FX as well as 890GX chipsets with SB850 Southbridge might be able to take care of Bulldozer CPUs. Only time will tell.

The information you provided from the article discusses AMD's advancements in incorporating USB 3.0 support in their chips, particularly focusing on the Llano Fusion chip. Here are the key points from the article:
  • The Llano APU chip, particularly the Hudson M2 Southbridge of the Llano APU, is reported to be the first chip from AMD to support USB 3.0.
  • The Southbridge chipset (Hudson M2) in the Llano APU can handle 16 USB ports, 6 SATA ports, RAID, 4 PCIe slots, and an integrated clock generator.
  • This chipset is expected to be utilized in both mobile and desktop versions of the Llano APU.
  • The article suggests that 2011 will see a significant increase in USB 3.0 adoption, indicating a positive outlook for that year regarding USB 3.0 technology.
  • Until then, high-end motherboards and possibly new notebooks are likely to incorporate USB 3.0 support through the use of third-party USB 3.0 chips.
  • The replacement timeline for the SB850 Southbridge is not specified, but the AMD 890FX and 890GX chipsets with the SB850 Southbridge are anticipated to support Bulldozer CPUs.
It's interesting to see the progression of hardware support for USB 3.0 during that period, with AMD making strides in integrating this technology into their chipset offerings.
