GameStop Cuts Nintendo Switch 2 Camera to $9.99, Down 82%

GameStop has reportedly cut the official Nintendo Switch 2 Camera to $9.99 in the United States, an 82% drop from Nintendo’s $54.99 list price. The sale surfaced over the July 12 weekend, although GameStop’s product page was still indexed at full price in recent search results, so availability and the displayed price may vary by store or change without notice.
Nintendo lists the camera as an optional Switch 2 accessory, not a requirement for GameChat. Nintendo’s own system documentation says users can connect its camera or another compatible USB-C camera for face-to-face video during GameChat sessions. That makes the $9.99 offer attractive chiefly for buyers who want the official unit’s compact stand, Nintendo branding and predictable plug-and-play setup.

The camera connects over USB-C and supports video chat through Switch 2’s GameChat feature. It is also used by selected games for camera-based modes, including features that put players’ faces or on-screen reactions into multiplayer sessions.
The accessory does not improve normal game performance, unlock general online multiplayer, or add a webcam to the handheld itself. Switch 2’s built-in microphone handles voice chat; the camera is specifically for video and compatible game features. GameChat also requires the appropriate Nintendo Account, internet connection and, after Nintendo’s initial promotional period ended, a Nintendo Switch Online membership.
Nintendo’s official store continues to list the camera at $54.99, making the reported GameStop price unusually aggressive rather than a broad MSRP change. Earlier promotions at other retailers had reduced the camera more modestly, but there is no indication from Nintendo that the accessory is being discontinued or that its official price has been revised.

A cheap official option, but not a must-buy

The discount changes the calculation for Switch 2 owners who were put off by the camera’s original price. At roughly $55, the accessory faced stiff competition from USB-C webcams and from simply using voice chat. At $9.99, it is a low-risk add-on for households that play party games locally or use GameChat with friends.
Buyers should still avoid assuming that the official camera offers exclusive access to every video feature. Nintendo explicitly supports compatible USB-C cameras, and individual game support remains the deciding factor. Before purchasing, check whether the games you play actually use camera features and confirm that the sale is fulfilled directly by GameStop rather than a marketplace seller.
For Windows users, the Switch 2 Camera should be treated as a console accessory rather than a replacement PC webcam; Nintendo markets it for Switch 2 GameChat and game use, not Windows compatibility.
If the $9.99 price remains available, it is a sensible purchase for Switch 2 owners who expect to use GameChat video or camera-enabled party modes.
