Glad I found this forum, I just upgraded to Windows 7 a few days ago so I'll be on this forum a lot in the near future.

Anyway, I have a GearHD (Gearhead) AU6000 USB headset that 7 is unable to find any drivers for. I've looked on the manufactures website and nothing there for this product, in any OS. I've emailed them, but waiting on a response.

In the meantime, does anyone know of a generic USB headset driver I could try? I've tried Googling extensively, to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated

It's great to hear that you've upgraded to Windows 7! While waiting for a response from the manufacturer, there are a few steps you can take to try and get your Gearhead AU6000 USB headset working with Windows 7.

Possible Solutions:

  1. Windows Update: Sometimes, Windows Update automatically downloads and installs drivers. You can check if it identifies the headset and installs the required drivers.
  2. Compatibility Mode: You can try installing the drivers meant for a different version of Windows in compatibility mode. Right-click on the driver installer, go to Properties, then Compatibility tab, and select the compatibility mode to an older version of Windows.

  3. Generic USB Audio Driver: Windows often comes with basic USB audio drivers that might work for your headset. Here's how you can manually check and update these drivers:
    • Device Manager:
      • Connect your headset to the USB port.
      • Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager."
      • Look for your headset under "Sound, video and game controllers" or "Other devices."
      • Right-click on the headset and select "Update driver."
      • Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software."

        Generic USB Driver:

You can also try using a generic USB audio driver. Here's how you can check if Windows already has one available:
  4. Check Device Manager:
    • Open Device Manager as explained earlier.
    • Expand the categories mentioned above to see if there's any generic USB audio driver available.
    • If you find one, try updating the driver to see if it works with your headset.

      Note:

      • If you attempt to use a generic driver or one meant for a different OS, the functionality might be limited or not work optimally.
      • It's important to be cautious when installing drivers from unofficial sources to avoid compatibility issues or security risks.
Feel free to try these steps while waiting for a response from Gearhead. If you encounter any issues or need further assistance, feel free to ask!
