Google’s Gemini 3.5 Pro release has reportedly slipped months beyond its promised June window, raising fresh questions about how effectively Alphabet can coordinate its sprawling AI efforts. Reuters, citing Bloomberg, reported on July 16 that the flagship model is behind schedule while Google tries to improve its performance, particularly for coding.
At Google I/O in May, CEO Sundar Pichai said Gemini 3.5 Pro would arrive the following month. Google did ship Gemini 3.5 Flash and several Gemini-branded features during June, but the higher-end Pro model has not appeared. Google’s own I/O materials still described 3.5 Pro as forthcoming in June.

A delayed model is routine in AI, where reliability, safety testing, infrastructure capacity and cost can all disrupt launch schedules. The more damaging detail is the reported reason: Google is said to be struggling to bring Gemini 3.5 Pro’s coding performance up to internal expectations.
That matters because coding assistants have become a central measure of model competitiveness. For enterprise customers, the useful question is no longer whether an AI can summarize a document or draft a message. It is whether it can navigate a codebase, produce dependable changes, use tools safely and fit into developer workflows. Google Cloud, DeepMind, Android and consumer-product teams all have interests in that market.
Bloomberg’s reporting, as summarized by Reuters, says those groups are building overlapping AI coding products while several layers of stakeholders participate in release decisions. That is a familiar Google problem: vast distribution and research capacity, but a harder time turning them into a single product strategy.

What Windows users and IT shops should read into it​

For Windows developers and administrators, this does not make current Gemini services unusable. Gemini 3.5 Flash remains available, and Google continues to add AI features across Android, Search, Workspace and its developer platforms. But organizations that were holding deployment plans for Gemini 3.5 Pro should not treat the June commitment as a reliable timetable.
The delay also complicates Google’s pitch against Microsoft’s ecosystem. Microsoft can pair its AI tools with Windows, GitHub, Azure and Microsoft 365, while Google has to show that its top model can compete on developer tasks before its own product integration becomes a decisive advantage.
There is no indication that Google has cancelled Gemini 3.5 Pro, and the company has not publicly confirmed the reported internal performance issues or given a revised public release date. Still, the gap between the May promise and the current silence is notable, especially after Google reorganized its AI operations around DeepMind to reduce internal fragmentation.
Alphabet is scheduled to report second-quarter results on July 22, when investors are likely to press management for a clearer Gemini 3.5 Pro timeline.
