Solution
It seems like Windows 7 RC Ultimate is recognizing your hard disk as a removable drive, which can happen due to certain configurations or drivers. To resolve this issue and make your hard disk appear as a normal fixed drive, you can try the following steps:

Method 1: Modify Registry Settings

  1. Disclaimer: Editing the registry can be risky, so ensure you have a backup or create a system restore point before proceeding.
  2. Press Win + R, type regedit, and hit Enter to open the Registry Editor.
  3. Navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msahci
  4. In the right pane, double-click on Start.
  5. Change the value data from 3 to 0.

  6. Close the Registry Editor and restart your computer.

    Method 2: Update Drivers

  7. Check if there are any driver updates available for your hard disk or chipset.
  8. Visit the manufacturer's website (WD in this case) to download and install the latest drivers for your WD 250GB hard drive.
  9. Update other system drivers as well, if needed.

    Method 3: Check Disk Management

  10. Right-click on "Computer" or "This PC" and select "Manage".
  11. Go to "Disk Management".
  12. Locate your WD 250GB drive, right-click on it, and check if you have an option to change the drive type to a fixed disk.

    Method 4: Device Manager

  13. Press Win + X and select "Device Manager".
  14. Expand the "Disk drives" section.
  15. Right-click on your WD 250GB drive and select "Properties".
  16. Go to the "Policies" tab and ensure "Quick removal" is unchecked.

    Additional Notes:

    • Ensure that no USB devices are connected that might be confusing Windows regarding the drive type.
    • It's recommended to install the final version of Windows 7 instead of the RC version for stability and security reasons.
After trying these methods, restart your laptop and check if the issue is resolved. If the problem persists, feel free to provide more details for further assistance.
