Is it true that only computers installed win Win7 can take advantage of this streaming option?
Is there any 3party software that can be used?

Reason is that I want to set up a streaming option between my Win7 and other computers using both Vista and XP.

As of today this has been done by using WHS. Perhaps I also should continue to stick with this...?

Solution
Media streaming is a function of windows media player 12 which will be available for legacy OS when 7 is released. You can currently stream media to any PC that is using Media Center easily or to any networked box without media center by using shared folders. I currently am using my windows seven box in my room as my media server as well as my PC and regularly stream media to every PC in my house from XP thru Geexbox (awesome linux based HTPC OS)

What about streaming around the world, not just in my LAN?

I'm not sure that is available even to windows seven computers unless your setup as an internet domain and registered for DNS.
