I've installed Windows 7 RC as an upgrade from Vista Ultimate.
With Vista Ultimate, my laptop (Lenovo T61) ran perfectly. Now, however, I see my CPU utilization (I have the Gadget on my Desktop which shows the utilization) sits on about 50-60% permanantly.
My battery life is now less than an hour whereas I was getting at least 3 hours previously under Vista.

I've tried uninstalling my Antivirus (NOD32) and some of the Lenovo SW I wasn't using, but to no avail.

As I said, I have a Lenovo T61 Laptop with a Core 2 Duo T7300 2.00Ghz Processor & 2Gig memory.

Any help would be appreciated.

    Perform a Disk Cleanup:

  • Use the built-in Disk Cleanup tool to free up disk space and remove unnecessary files that may be affecting performance.

    Monitor Task Manager:

  • Use Task Manager to identify processes that are consuming CPU resources. Look for any processes that are using an abnormally high amount of CPU and address them accordingly.

    Disable Windows Features:

  • Disable Windows features that you do not need. This can help reduce system resource consumption.

    Check for Malware:

  • Perform a thorough scan for malware using a reliable antivirus program. Even though you uninstalled NOD32, it's essential to ensure your system is clean.

Update to a Stable Windows Version:

  • Windows 7 RC, being a Release Candidate, may have compatibility and performance issues. Consider updating to a stable version like Windows 7 Home Premium.

    Check Power Settings:

  • Ensure that your power settings are optimized for battery life. You can adjust power plans to maximize battery performance.

    Increase RAM:

  • Consider upgrading your RAM to 4GB if your laptop supports it. More RAM can help improve overall system performance.

    Revert to Windows Vista:

  • If the performance issues persist, consider reverting back to Windows Vista until a stable version of Windows 7 is released. By following these steps, you should be able to address the CPU utilization and battery life issues you're facing after upgrading to Windows 7 RC. Let me know if you need further assistance!
