I like to use the detailed directory view in Windows Explorer. But something maddening happens in my home directory in Explorer under Desktop\<username>: no matter how much I try to set it to 'Details', any time I return to the folder, it reverts back to 'Medium Icons'.

If I access the folder through My Computer > C:\Users\<username>, then Windows Explorer _does_ remember the detailed view. But I never access it this way, since the other is more convenient.

Any way to fix this?

The issue you are facing with Windows Explorer not retaining the detailed view settings in your Home directory under Desktop\ can be frustrating. Here are a few steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this problem:
  1. Reset Folder View Settings:
    • Open Windows Explorer.

      • Set the view to 'Details'.
      • While holding the Ctrl key, click the close button (X) on the window (do not use the 'File' > 'Exit' method).
      • Reopen Windows Explorer and check if the view remains as 'Details'.
    • Folder Options:
      • Open Windows Explorer.
      • Go to the View tab and click on 'Options'.

      • Click 'OK' to save the changes.
    • Registry Edit (Advanced):
      • Press Windows key + R, type "regedit", and hit Enter to open the Registry Editor.
      • Navigate to the following key:
        Code:
         HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell
      • Delete the BagMRU and Bags keys.
      • Restart the computer and check if the folder view settings persist. By resetting the folder view settings, adjusting Folder Options, or making changes in the registry, you might be able to resolve the issue and retain the detailed view settings in Windows Explorer for your Home directory.
