Here is how you can turn on app permissions for your microphone in Windows 10 and Windows 11, based on the official Microsoft Support article:

  • Open Settings: Select Start > Settings.
  • Navigate to Privacy & security.
  • Under App permissions, select Microphone.
  • Make sure Microphone access is turned On.
  • Under Let apps access your microphone, ensure this is On.
  • To allow specific apps, turn on the toggle for the apps you want under Choose which apps can access your microphone.
  • For desktop apps (like Zoom), ensure Let desktop apps access your microphone is On.

For Windows 10​

  • Open Settings: Select Start > Settings > Privacy.
  • In the left pane, choose Microphone under App permissions.
  • Make sure Microphone access for this device is turned On.

  • For desktop apps, ensure Allow desktop apps to access your microphone is On.
