Assume I am sitting in front of a Win7 computer (of a buddy).

How do I get the date(s) of the last update installed for this Win 7 system?

Be aware that there might be TWO different dates:

- The date when the last update was installed through official, built-in (automatic) Update from Windows 7
and secondly:
- The date when the last update was installed manually by clicking on a downloaded KB patch or installed by external update packages/tools.

Where do I find these dates in Windows 7 (pro)?

To see your PC’s update history, select the Start button, then select Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Update

An image from 'How to get the date of the last Windows Update?'. Windows Update window showing 216 important updates available, with 'View update history' highlighted.
