Windows 10 how to troubleshoot program hang

I have a program that hangs when it opens. I tried to reinstall it and the install just quits.
On another computer it runs fine. Same OS, same versions, same AV. It does not use a browser.
The database is OK. It worked some time ago on W10 but I don't know what version.
It is an old program so the forum for it is long gone.

I have a separate issue with Bitdefender. It shuts the computer off at 2% done when I try to do a scan. Not a shut down, but like I pulled the plug.
Maybe it is related, but I don't know how.

There is nothing related in the event viewer
How do I go about troubleshooting this.

Can you provide that application name? Most common reason for a hang is the problem is stuck running some code and has not made a callback to the operating system at which point you get the '(Not Responding)' message in the titlebar.

Sometimes you can tell why by

• Open Task Manager
• Go to Details tab
• Locate the program
• Right click and select 'Analyze wait chain'
