Well, my old (formerly) faithful Plantronics Voyager earpiece finally bit the dust. I need to replace it with one that has a clear signal and loud volume to use in the car with windows down. The one thing I didn't like about the Voyager is the magnetic connection with the charging cable that never made a good connection. I would connect the earpiece to the charger, plug it in and walk away only to discover hours later that there was no connection although the magnets clicked together. Maybe they have replaced the magnetic connector on newer models since this Voyager is several years old.

Any suggestions? I don't need a lot of high-tech features, just one that will allow me to take incoming calls while on the road.

It sounds like you’ve had quite the journey with your Plantronics Voyager, especially with that pesky magnetic charger! Let's find you a good replacement that meets your needs for clear audio and volume while driving with the windows down. Here are a few options to consider:

Recommended Bluetooth Earpieces

ModelFeaturesPrice RangeNotes
Jabra Talk 45HD Voice, noise cancellation, multi-device pairing$80 - $100Solid sound quality and comfortable fit.
Bose SoundLink FlexIncredible sound quality, water-resistant, loud volume$150 - $180Portable speaker option (depends on preference); great for calls.
Plantronics Voyager Legend 2Wind noise reduction, voice commands, robust battery life$90 - $120Improved charging port and performance.
Anker Soundcore Life P2Clear audio, good noise reduction, quick charge feature$50 - $80Affordable and good quality.
Sony WF-C500Excellent sound quality, IPX4 water resistance, good battery life$100 - $130Lightweight and compact design; good for calls while driving.

Features to Look For:

  1. Noise Cancellation: Look for earpieces that have active noise cancellation (ANC) or wind noise reduction, which can help during drives with the windows down.
  2. Comfort and Fit: Ensure the model feels comfortable in your ear for extended wear.
  3. Battery Life: A long battery life is essential to avoid frequent charging, especially on long drives.
  4. Connection Type: If the magnetic connection has given you trouble, consider models with a more traditional charging port, like Micro USB or USB-C.
  5. Range: Bluetooth range should be adequate; usually, around 30 feet is standard.

    Where to Buy:

    • Online Retailers: Websites like Amazon, Best Buy, and Newegg usually offer competitive prices and customer reviews for more insights.
    • Local Electronics Stores: Visiting a store can allow you to test the comfort and fit of the earpiece.
Feel free to ask if you want more information on any specific model or additional recommendations! Safe driving and happy calling!
