I installed Windows 7 on my computer 1 month ago. It was working great until last week. Now it crashes almost every time I wake it up from sleep mode.

I tried to attach the minidump files but got the message that I don't have permission. I am logged in as the administrator so not sure why I'm having this problem.

file:///C:/Windows/Minidump/012611-39561-01.dmp

Solution
I'm no expert on this, wait for one to confirm, but I reckon your ram timings are out.
Especially when memory corruption is mentioned more than once in your dump files.

I think it should be set at:
333mhz
5-5-5-15

and it's set at :
266mhz
4-4-4-12

You have a few drivers that need updating as well which I'm going to have a look at now.
Hi biojen
Go to your C:\Windows\Minidump folder. Copy the .dmp files to a new folder on your desktop. Zip up that folder and attach to a post.

You can use the attached file to add the "Take Ownership" command to your right click context menu. If you cannont successfully otherwise copy the .dmp files from the MiniDump folder to another folder on your desktop then you can then use it to take ownership of the whole minidump folder of the individual .dmp files seperately. Whichever works best for you.
The zip file includes two registry files (.reg files) on to add the takeownership function and one to remove it called InstallTakeOwnereship.reg and RemoveTakeOwnership.reg respectively.
Hope this will help you upload the dumps.

I have not read you dump files, but did you change anything in this period, like add any additional devices. which would include external drives?

Solution
Code:
ATTEMPTED_WRITE_TO_READONLY_MEMORY (be)
An attempt was made to write to readonly memory. The guilty driver is on the
stack trace (and is typically the current instruction pointer).
When possible, the guilty driver's name (Unicode string) is printed on
the bugcheck screen and saved in KiBugCheckDriver.
Arguments:
Arg1: 80404098, Virtual address for the attempted write.
Arg2: d8000121, PTE contents.
Arg3: 941769e4, (reserved)
Arg4: 0000000a, (reserved)

Thanks for the replies.

I did plug in my external hard drive to retrieve some files last week, but it is otherwise not connected.

Regarding the drivers, how do I find the right ones?

Any more tips regarding updating drivers?

I am a fairly competent computer user, but obviously lack expertise regarding hardware/configuration, programming, etc... so if you can bear really dumbing it down for me that would help. Thanks!

I don't know about the mDNSResponder or if I need it.

I have software installed to run bioinformatics analyses (DNA sequence analysis). This includes downloading and updating databases that are used to compare to large data sets. The crashing problem did not arise when I first installed and ran these applications (cCAS, BLAST tools, Cygwin tools (a Linux API layer for Windows needed to run a program called CAP3)) but could be related. ? However, I have not been running these programs during the last week or 2, so if they have anything to do with the crashing, they are automatically doing stuff in the background that I am unaware of.

Go to this Broadcom Link: Broadcom.com - Ethernet NIC Driver Downloads
Choose your Modem and download the drivers. If you get a choice don't download the "driver only".
Download the "suite" or "family" as they will self install the driver(s) you need.

OEM = Go to the maker of you computer. Look for support or drivers or downloads etc.. Punch in your model number and it will give you a choice of downloads.
Motherboard = Go to the maker of you Motherboard. Look for etc. etc..
Chipsets = Go to the maker of you Chipsets. Look for etc. etc..

Information regarding all of the bioinformatics software and databases I have installed can be found here:

Installation

I have all of the components installed except the optional Phred application.

Oops. Sorry for all of that extraneous information. I guess mDNSresponder probably has something to do with iTunes?

mDNSResponder belongs to/with the Bonjour Service which belongs to Apple "i" products.

I used to do a bit of Folding as well. The one good thing about folding is that it's like a long term CPU stress test!! If it's not running at the moment it won't be affecting anything.

RAM is the problem, unless you set it right we'll be going around in circles trying to help you. : )

1. RAM settings are wrong - set DRAM options on AUTO, or load setup defaults in the BIOS.

2. Re-attach memory and SPD screenshots for EACH slot. So we can see your new settings.

3. To update drivers visit devices manufacturers support sites,

Okay. I need help with #1 (RAM). I don't know how to do these things. I found the settings tab for virtual memory, and it is already set to "automatically manage paging file size for all drives". (see screenshot) If this isn't what you are talking about, please explain.

Thank you for your patience.
