Windows 7 Intermittent IDE DVD Drive Recognition Issue on Windows 7 (Code 10 Error)

I have a win 7 system that periodically fails to recognize the IDE dvd drive, I have tried other drives with same result, When it does show up in device manager I get the message, device cannot start Code 10 and other times it does not show up at all. There was a time when it worked ok and nothing has changed since. Any ideas? Thanks Bob

Some years ago I regarded this as "the dreaded error code 10"! Not seen it for a long time but have a work through this MS link:

Also, since this has happened with more than one drive, I would swap data and power cables just to make sure those are good, and as a double check to ensure the cables are securely fastened.
