Does W7 x86 use the same key as x64? Also, at work we have a company copy of W7, but some jackass put a permanent label over the disc, but failed to mark whether it is x86 or x64. Is there a way of telling?

A Win7 Package includes X86 and X64 and they use the same key. You can tell them apart by size (the X64 is about 1/3 larger than the X86 -- 3.1 gig vs. 2.4 gig) and label unless you are dealing with an unlabeled ISO.

First, take the jackass outside and put him/her in a pen where they belong! Also cut off the oat rations for a week! ;)

Do like what busydog said, then I suggest labeling the discs to avoid a problem.

If you're dealing with two seperate x32 and x64 installation disks (e.g. downloaded from MSDN), then the x64 version is a little larger. You can open it and search for *64 files. For example, the x64 has this file:

X:\sources\replacementmanifests\failovercluster-core-wow64-rm.man

So if you can find any typical 64-bit files on disk, it should be the x64 version. :)
