Issue with selecting multiple files with CTRL

Hello
I'm new here and I hope I didn't post this in the wrong place. If so, I apologize!

I've had a small, but annoying issue for a while now on my desktop PC.
When I select multiple files while holding ctrl and using the mouse, my selection gets cancelled randomly if I hold CTRL too long. (~5 seconds)
I noticed if I let go of CTRL inbetween, nothing gets deselected.
I don't know if this is a setting I accidently activated or if this is a malfunction, but it's pretty annoying for sure. I haven't had this problem from the beginning. So something chnaged at one point. I'm using a cheap-ish keyboard from "Tecknet" if that's important.
Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

There is no setting for such a behavior. I would suspect a hardware issue.
