Hi,
Im trying to connect with remote desktop to servers (win2k/2k3/2k8) from win7RC (Version 6.1.7600 Build 7600). can only logon to remote computers using user credentials other then my user thats logged on to local win7 desktop. my user is a domain admin (logged on as - Domain\admin).
in addition cant even use "RunAS" with my creds on remote machine after logging in under different user. actually, I cant log into any remote machines/apps (i.e. vmware Virtual Center, Enterprise Anti-Virus management, etc)with the same creds. However, I have no problem using the Remote Server Administration Tools Snap-ins on my computer...
environment is win2003 domain.
any ideas ???

Solution
It sounds like you are facing issues with connecting to remote servers from your Windows 7 RC machine using Remote Desktop, RunAs, and other applications despite being a domain admin. Here are a few suggestions to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

Remote Desktop Connection:

  1. Credentials Issue: Ensure that the credentials you are using to connect via Remote Desktop are correct. Sometimes, issues arise due to mismatched credentials or account permissions.
  2. Network Configuration: Check if network connectivity is properly set up between your Windows 7 RC machine and the remote servers. Firewalls, network settings, or VPN configurations might be blocking the connection.

    RunAs:

Remote Desktop Connection:

  1. Credentials Issue: Ensure that the credentials you are using to connect via Remote Desktop are correct. Sometimes, issues arise due to mismatched credentials or account permissions.
  2. Network Configuration: Check if network connectivity is properly set up between your Windows 7 RC machine and the remote servers. Firewalls, network settings, or VPN configurations might be blocking the connection.

    RunAs:

  3. Permissions: Make sure that your domain admin account has the necessary permissions on the target machines. This includes local administrator rights if needed.
  4. User Rights Assignment: Check the User Rights Assignment policies on the target machines to ensure that your admin account has the required permissions.

    General Connectivity:

  5. Firewall Settings: Verify that the firewall settings on both the local and remote machines allow the required traffic for Remote Desktop, RunAs, and other applications.
  6. DNS Settings: Ensure that DNS resolution is working correctly in your environment to avoid any connectivity issues.

    Additional Steps:

  7. Group Policies: Review the Group Policies in your domain environment to see if any policies are restricting your ability to connect remotely.
  8. Authentication: Check if there are any specific authentication settings or requirements for remote connections in your environment that you need to adhere to.

    Update and Compatibility:

Given that you are using Windows 7 RC (Release Candidate), note that this version is quite old. Consider updating to a more recent and supported version of Windows like Windows 10 for improved compatibility and security. If these steps do not resolve your issue, please provide more details about any specific error messages you encounter or any other relevant information for further assistance.
