Upon connecting my Kodak EasyShare Z730 camera to the USB port, there is ZERO indication that windows even recognizes I plugged -anything- into the USB port at all. The camera itself is supposed to blank the screen and blink an LED to let me know it's connected to a USB port, however it does not see that it's connected to the computer either. This camera worked perfectly fine in both XP and Vista.

EDIT: Upon pulling out other devices and plugging it into various ports, it finally actually saw it and detected it. But why did it become so unresponsive to begin with?

When you encounter issues with a USB device not being recognized by Windows 7, there could be several factors at play. Here's a troubleshoot to help resolve this problem:
1. Check USB Ports:
- Ensure the USB port is not defective. Try using a different USB port on your computer to see if the camera is recognized.
2. Camera's Connection Mode:
- Some cameras have different USB connection modes like "Mass Storage" or "PC Camera." Make sure the camera is set to the appropriate mode.
3. Device Manager Check:
- Open Device Manager and look for any unknown devices. Connect the camera and see if any new devices appear or if the camera is listed under Imaging Devices.

4. Driver Updates:
- Ensure the camera's drivers are up to date. Visit the Kodak website and download the latest driver for your camera, particularly if it's not fully compatible with Windows 7.
5. USB Controller Reset:
- You can try resetting the USB controllers. Go to Device Manager, expand the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" section, right-click each USB controller, and choose "Uninstall." Restart your computer to let Windows reinstall the drivers.
6. Power & Cables:
- Ensure the camera is powered on and has sufficient battery. Try using a different USB cable.
7. Camera Connection:
- Try connecting the camera to a different computer to isolate if the issue is with the camera or the Windows 7 system.
If the camera works initially after reconnecting other devices or ports, it could be a transient issue related to USB port recognition or driver loading. If the problem persists, continue to monitor the behavior for consistency or consult Kodak support for more camera-specific troubleshooting steps.
