There are a few things that bug me about the new Media Player (which otherwise I think is pretty sweet), and I was wondering if someone has a fix.

The first: does anyone knows how to change the top album cover presented in "artist" view? I don't see any UI element that allows me to do that (which is a shame, I think it would make a nice feature), but I don't mind editing some file to get it the way I want, if only I knew what...

Second: Many people rip their TV serials into formats other than wtv (if I'm not mistaken- Windows' Recorded TV format), and so it will not get inserted into Recorded TV, and yet tags such as "Serial" are not supported in the video library. So far I haven't seen a way to associate more file types to Recorded TV or add more tags to "Video", which will probably involve a hack since it's well integrated into Explorer. Does anybody knows a trick to get videos sorted under the "Serial" tag?

It's understandable that you're looking for ways to customize the Windows Media Player to better suit your needs. Here are some suggestions to address the issues you mentioned:

Changing the Top Album Cover in "Artist" View:

Unfortunately, Windows Media Player doesn't offer a direct way to change the top album cover presented in the "artist" view through its user interface. However, you can try a workaround by manually replacing the album cover image files associated with the music files. Here's a general outline of how you might accomplish this:
  1. Locate the Album Artwork Files: Find the existing album artwork associated with the artist in your music files.

However, you can try a workaround by manually replacing the album cover image files associated with the music files. Here's a general outline of how you might accomplish this:
  1. Locate the Album Artwork Files: Find the existing album artwork associated with the artist in your music files.
  2. Edit or Replace the Album Artwork: You can edit the existing artwork files using an image editing tool or replace them with your desired album covers.
  3. Embed the Artwork: Use software that allows you to embed album artwork into the music files. There are dedicated tools for this purpose that can help you associate the new album cover with your music files. Make sure to back up your music files before making any changes. Keep in mind that this method may not be straightforward and may require some technical knowledge.

Associating Videos with the "Serial" Tag:

Windows Media Player's library system may not support custom tags like "Serial" for videos out of the box. To work around this limitation, you can consider using third-party media management software that provides more robust tagging features. Alternatively, you can organize your video files in a folder structure that reflects the categorization you desire. For instance, you could create a folder named "Serials" and place all relevant video files within it. This method allows you to visually categorize your videos outside of the built-in tags within Windows Media Player. Another option is to use media player software that offers extensive customization options for metadata and organization. These programs often provide more flexibility in how your media library is structured and tagged. These solutions are workarounds and may involve additional software or manual organization. Remember to always back up your files before making significant changes.
