Hi All,
I've been trying to trigger mfpmp.exe (introduced from Vista) by playing a wmv file, but fail to see mfpmp.exe running in the task manager...while wmplayer.exe runs!
The same wmv file when played on windows Vista was showing up both wmplayer.exe and mfpmp.exe
Note that Windows7 has Windows media player 12 by default... is there any way out that i can trigger mfpmp.exe ????
Any help is greatly appreciated

It seems like you are trying to trigger the Media Foundation Protected Pipeline (mfpmp.exe) process by playing a WMV file, but you are unable to see mfpmp.exe running in the Task Manager on Windows 7. This process is typically associated with digital rights management (DRM) protection and various media-related functionalities. In Windows 7, the behavior might have changed compared to Windows Vista in terms of how the Media Foundation components are handled. Here are a few suggestions to try triggering the mfpmp.exe process:

In Windows 7, the behavior might have changed compared to Windows Vista in terms of how the Media Foundation components are handled. Here are a few suggestions to try triggering the mfpmp.exe process:
Steps to Trigger mfpmp.exe on Windows 7:
- Playback Protected Content: Ensure that the WMV file you are playing contains protected content that requires the Media Foundation Protected Pipeline to handle the decryption and playback.
- Use Windows Media Player: Try playing the WMV file in Windows Media Player to see if it triggers the mfpmp.exe process. Windows Media Player is closely integrated with the Media Foundation components, including the protected pipeline.
- Check Compatibility: Confirm that the WMV file format and its associated DRM requirements are supported by Windows 7 and its Media Foundation framework.
- Update Windows Media Player: Make sure that Windows Media Player is up to date. Updates may include fixes and enhancements related to media playback and DRM support.
- Reset Media Settings: If you suspect any configuration issues, you can try resetting the Windows Media Player settings to default and then attempt playing the WMV file again.
- Monitor Processes: While playing the WMV file, keep an eye on the Task Manager to see if the mfpmp.exe process briefly appears during playback or if there are any related errors in the Windows Event Viewer.
Additional Notes:
- It's possible that the behavior of mfpmp.exe and media playback has evolved in newer versions of Windows compared to Windows Vista.
- Windows 7 might handle the Media Foundation Protected Pipeline differently or combine its functionality with other processes.
