I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on an Acer Extensa 4620Z the built in Camera is working but the built-in microphone is not... I did a diagnostics on the drives and there aren't any missing drives that Win7 can see... Any help?

Solution
It seems like your built-in microphone on your Acer Extensa 4620Z is not functioning properly despite the camera working fine. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Troubleshooting Steps for Microphone Issue:

  1. Check Microphone Hardware:
    • Ensure that the microphone is not physically muted or turned off.
    • Check if there is any debris blocking the microphone opening.
    []Update Audio Drivers:
    • Go to the Device Manager (Press Windows Key + X, then select Device Manager).
    • Expand the "Sound, video and game controllers" section.
    • Right-click on the audio device and select "Update driver".
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to update the audio drivers.

    ]Run Troubleshooter:
    • Windows has a built-in troubleshooter for audio issues. Run it by:
      • Press Windows Key + I to open Settings.
      • Go to Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Playing Audio.
    []Check Privacy Settings:
    • In Windows, ensure that apps have permission to access the microphone.
      • Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone and enable "Allow apps to access your microphone".
    [
    ]Check BIOS Settings:
    • Enter the BIOS settings during boot (usually by pressing F2 or Del key).
    • Look for any settings related to the microphone and ensure they are enabled.
    []Reinstall Audio Drivers:
    • If updating the drivers didn't work, try uninstalling the audio drivers and then reinstalling them.
    [
    ]Check for Windows Updates:
    • Make sure your Windows 7 is up to date by installing any pending updates.
  2. Test the Microphone:
    • Use the built-in Voice Recorder app or try recording a message on a different application to test if the microphone is working.

      Additional Recommendations:

      • Consider performing a clean boot to see if any third-party applications are causing conflicts with the microphone.
      • If none of the above solutions work, you may consider using an external microphone as an alternative.
