I just got a Dell pc that was supposed to come with WIndows 7 Pro 64-bit OS but came with Windows 7 Pro 32-bit instead. Otherwise the machine is 64 bit ready. Dell sent me a Win 7 64-bit install disk. I have questions:

1. Do i merely boot up off the 64-bit dvd?
2. Will the setup automatically wipe out old version of Win 7 so it can do a clean install?
3. Will the Win 7 32 bit Easy Transfer be able to bring docs and setttings over to the 64 bit Win 7?

Thanks.

Hi

You will have to boot to the DVD and chose "Custom Installation" not upgrade.
This will remove the old installation completely and replace it with the 64 bit version.

You should back up all your files first just to be safe, take your time, (I always forget something) don't forget your address books and favorites.

Unless you have 2 internal hard drives, I'd recommend an external USB drive.

I believe that you can use easy transfer to move the files from 32 bit to 64 bit Windows but not the other way around.
