Hi,
I have windows 7 ultimate installed on my computer and it has been apparently normal for a long time. But recently my keyboard and mouse simultaneously get stuck. It get stuck only in the middle of something and I have to reboot the system to bring the mouse and keyboard to normal. The mouse won't respond to any type of movement or click nor do the keyboard responds. Even the caps lock or number lock keys are non-responding as if plugged off. At the same time the system do run perfectly normal for eg: if I was on some installation it will go to completion even when the keyboard and mouse are dead.
Is it hardware problem, a bad sector, a virus or something like that.
My system runs on a 1gb ram and asus m2nvm motherboard.

It sounds like you are experiencing a frustrating issue with your Windows 7 Ultimate system where the keyboard and mouse simultaneously become unresponsive, requiring a system reboot to resolve the problem. Here are some possible causes and solutions you can consider to troubleshoot this issue:

Possible Causes:

  1. Driver Issues: Outdated or corrupt drivers for the keyboard and mouse could be causing the problem.
  2. Hardware Problems: Faulty hardware components like the keyboard, mouse, USB ports, or even the motherboard can cause this issue.
  3. Power Settings: Windows power settings might cause the USB ports to power down, affecting the keyboard and mouse functionality.
  4. Software Conflicts: Conflicts...

  3. Power Settings: Windows power settings might cause the USB ports to power down, affecting the keyboard and mouse functionality.
  4. Software Conflicts: Conflicts with software or applications running in the background may interfere with the input devices.

    Solutions to Try:

  5. Update Drivers:
    • Ensure that your keyboard and mouse drivers are up to date. You can update them through Device Manager in Windows.
    []USB Power Settings:
    • Adjust the USB power settings to prevent the system from powering down USB devices to save power.
    [
    ]Hardware Check:
    • Test the keyboard and mouse on another system to see if they work normally.
    []Virus Scan:
    • Perform a comprehensive virus scan to rule out any malware causing the issue.
    [
    ]Check Event Viewer:
    • Check Windows Event Viewer for any error messages that might point to the cause of the problem.

      Additional Tips:

    • System Upgrade: Considering your system's specs (1GB RAM), upgrading to a newer system with better hardware could improve performance and compatibility. Given that your system runs normally despite the keyboard and mouse issues, it's less likely to be related to bad sectors. However, a thorough check for malware and hardware tests are recommended steps to identify the root cause of the problem. Let me know if you need more detailed instructions on any of these steps.
