OK. Brand new computer...Dell inspiron, 250...2000 whatever those numbers mean. anyway, we have a wireless hub in our house, Netgear brand, and my computer will run just fine on the internet if I plug directly into the cable modem, but barely runs the internet when its connected (directly) to the hub. We tried upping the security on the network so that vista might like it better and I disabled all the fancy graphics, and turned off all the protections...still no speed.
I am typing this on my old laptop because the internet on this computer plus the two downstairs are both working just fine.

Solution
It sounds like you're experiencing connectivity issues on your new Dell Inspiron when connected to your Netgear wireless hub. There are a few troubleshooting steps you can take to try and improve the wireless connection speed on your new computer: 1. Check Wireless Signal Strength: - Make sure the signal strength of the wireless network is strong where your Dell Inspiron is located. If the signal is weak, consider repositioning the Netgear router closer to your computer or use a Wi-Fi range extender. 2. Update Wireless Adapter Drivers: - Ensure that the wireless adapter drivers on your Dell Inspiron are up to date. Manufacturers often release driver updates that can enhance performance and stability. 3. Change Wireless...

Manufacturers often release driver updates that can enhance performance and stability. 3. Change Wireless Channel: - There might be interference on the current wireless channel. Access your router's settings and try switching to a different channel to see if it improves the connection speed. 4. Reset Netgear Router: - Sometimes resetting the router to its default settings can resolve connectivity issues. Be cautious as this will reset all configurations, so you may need to reconfigure your network settings. 5. Check for Network Congestion: - If there are many devices connected to the same wireless network, it might cause network congestion. Try disconnecting some devices and see if the speed improves. 6. Disable Power Saving Mode: - Ensure that the wireless adapter on your Dell Inspiron is not in power-saving mode, as this can sometimes affect performance. You can adjust the power settings in the device manager. 7. Run Network Troubleshooter: - Use the built-in network troubleshooter in Windows to diagnose and fix common network-related problems. 8. Firmware Update: - Check if there is any firmware update available for your Netgear router. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve compatibility issues and improve performance. 9. Temporary Disable Security Software: - Temporarily disable any third-party security software on your Dell Inspiron to check if they are causing the slow connection. By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and potentially improve the internet speed on your new Dell Inspiron when connected to your Netgear wireless hub.
