SOLVED: NVIDIA GeForce 310M not detected

Hello, I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit I just installed on a newly bought laptop with a graphics card mentioned above, but it is not detected by the OS. and by not detected I mean it does not show up in device manager at all. I just have Intel (R) HD Graphics listed in there. I've tried downloading nvidia drivers, using the nvidia detector applet, but none see it. How would I go about solving this problem?

Is the display currently correct? Are things bold & changable when you go to view Screen Resolution? What is the resolution, currently?

I'm currently running on the integrated Intel one, so everything in screen resolution (which is currently 1280x1024, I use an external monitor) works.

Code:
lspci -vv | grep -i nvidia
doesn't show anything in ubuntu live. at this point I'm not even sure there's a card anymore, although the vendor's website says so.
