Pdf readers freezing in rdp session of server 2012r2

We have 4 2012r2 terminal servers in a farm and users are having random issues with pdf readers not printing, or saying no printers installed (printers are loaded as local printers on each server)
Sometimes one reader will work and another wont and this morning opening a pdf in any reader would freeze when trying to print
Trying adobe 9.1, foxit and nitro but IE also plays up
Word docs etc print no problems at all
Any thoughts

An related errors in the Event Viewer when this happens?

Nothing of significance no. Just tried the latest version of acrobat reader DC and it works sometimes and more often not. When it is going to fail to print the program does not load properly and gives an initialization error. If it loads fully showing the previous documents etc it is going to work/print. It is random and will work one day for a user and the next day not

What is the initialization error? Are you sure its a PDF printing issue and not an application your users are using to print with? Could the PDF files they are printing be auto generated by some app on a web portal that is making malformed PDFs? Does the same error come up when your printing to PDF from Windows Notepad? Some things to try....
