This issue has been around since the original RC release. Pixelation mostly on Nvidia cards when using VLC and MPC.

WMP11 works fine no pixelation etc but both of these programs are effected pretty annoying given VLC is the only video player worth a damn. Anyone any resolutions to this? Apparently on the VLC forums its to do with DirectX and apparently in OpenGL is works OK.

Anyone know anything more about this?

Solution
It seems like you're facing pixelation issues primarily on Nvidia cards when using VLC and MPC, which do not occur when using WMP11. This problem has been persistent since the original Release Candidate (RC) release. Here are some insights and potential solutions to this problem:

Causes of Pixelation Issues:

  1. DirectX vs. OpenGL: The problem might be related to the way VLC and MPC interact with the graphics rendering APIs, DirectX and OpenGL. It appears that OpenGL works fine, while DirectX causes pixelation.

    Possible Solutions:

  2. Switching to OpenGL: Since you mentioned that the issue is resolved when using OpenGL, you might want to consider switching the rendering mode in VLC and MPC to OpenGL:

  2. Switching to OpenGL: Since you mentioned that the issue is resolved when using OpenGL, you might want to consider switching the rendering mode in VLC and MPC to OpenGL:
    • VLC: Go to Tools > Preferences > Video and under Output, select OpenGL video output.
    • MPC: In MPC-HC, go to View > Options > Playback and select Renderer as Old renderer or check if there are other options available, like OpenGL.
[]Driver Updates: Ensure that you have the latest Nvidia graphics drivers installed. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause compatibility issues with certain software. []Codec Packs: Check if you have any codec packs installed that might be conflicting with VLC and MPC. Sometimes, codec packs can cause pixelation and playback issues.
  3. Software Updates: Make sure that both VLC and MPC are updated to their latest versions. Sometimes, software bugs are fixed in newer releases.

    Additional Tips:

    • Community Forums: Visiting Nvidia forums or software-specific forums like VideoLAN (VLC) can provide detailed solutions or workarounds shared by other users facing similar issues.
It's recommended to try these suggestions and see if they resolve the pixelation problem you're experiencing. If you need further assistance or encounter any other issues, feel free to ask for help!
