Ok, so I just got my Windows 7 on my HP 6530b laptop, and I have stored my documents on my fathers XP computer meanwhile. Problem is I can't connect to his computer. He can find be but I can't find him.
I have been googling for a while now, and the things I have done to fix this is:
- Change it to a work-network
- Changed both homegroup-names to: MSHOME
- Changed the Win 7 from 128 bit crypt to to 40- or 56- bit.

Both computers are on the same network, and everything works fine except for this.

What am I doing wrong?

Solution
Are you using a wireless connection? If so, have you tried a wired one.

Homegroups are not used in XP.

Is your Workgroup the same as the XP machine?

Have you tried using the computer name or IP address when searching.

The folder you need is set as shared on the XP machine?
