Hi,

Not quite sure how to explain the problem, but I will give it a go. I've upgraded my laptop (HP 2510p) from Vista to 7 and everything is working just fine. The only problem is that I have a part of my HDD which is called HP_RECOVERY. I would like to create a backup of my new system, but the old backup (from Vista) is still blocking all the space. In "Computer" I can see that there is only 780 mb left out of 6,25 Gb, but when I enter the HP_RECOVERY part I can't see any files. Not even if I change the setting of Folder Options to show hidden files and folders.

Does anyone have an advice?

Solution
It sounds like you are facing an issue with the HP_RECOVERY partition on your HP 2510p laptop after upgrading from Vista to Windows 7. The HP_RECOVERY partition typically holds system recovery files, which can take up a significant amount of disk space. Here are some steps you can take to address this issue and potentially create a backup of your new Windows 7 system:
  1. Check Hidden Files and Folders:
    • Make sure you have set Windows to show hidden files and folders. Sometimes system files are hidden by default, and changing this setting can help you view these files.

    ]Disk Management:
    • Use the Disk Management tool to view all partitions on your hard drive. This can help you identify the partitions and their sizes more accurately.
    []Backup Creation:
    • If you are unable to access the HP_RECOVERY partition or if it's taking up significant space, you may consider creating a backup using third-party backup software. This will ensure that you have a backup of your Windows 7 system without relying on the HP_RECOVERY partition.
    [
    ]HP Recovery Manager:
    • Check if your HP laptop has a Recovery Manager tool. This tool may provide options to create a backup of your system or manage the recovery partition.
  2. Partition Resizing:
    • In some cases, you might be able to resize partitions to reallocate space. Be cautious with this step as resizing partitions can lead to data loss if not done correctly. If you are still unable to see the files in the HP_RECOVERY partition or if it's not functioning as expected, you may need to reach out to HP support for specific guidance related to your model and the HP_RECOVERY partition. Feel free to try these steps and let me know if you encounter any issues or if you need further assistance!
