Hello,

Recently i have had an issue with proxy settings on my PC. for some reason windows keeps selecting the option that i connect via a proxy server. When windows changes this option my internet stops working. I have to go back and un-tick it.

I use Chrome so for the time being i added this to the shortcut

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" "--no-proxy-server="

Which has fixed the issue in chrome but things like desktop widgets etc generally stop when windows changes this option. I have no idea why it keeps changing this. I have to change it back at least 3 or 4 times a week gets annoying. Anyone know why this would keep changing?

It seems like you're facing an issue with Windows repeatedly changing your proxy settings, causing disruptions to your internet connection. This can be frustrating, especially when it interferes with various applications and services on your computer. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially fix this issue:

  1. Windows Proxy Settings:
    • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy.
    • Ensure that the "Use a proxy server" option is disabled.

    • Ensure that the "Use a proxy server" option is disabled.
  2. System Proxy Settings:
    • Press Windows Key + R, type inetcpl.cpl, and press Enter.

    • Make sure "Automatically detect settings" is checked and "Use a proxy server for your LAN" is unchecked.

      Malware Check:

Run a thorough malware scan on your system to ensure that no malicious software is tampering with your settings.

      Windows Update:

Ensure your Windows system is up to date. Sometimes, updates include fixes for such issues.

      Group Policy Settings:

Group Policy settings might be enforcing proxy configurations. To check:
    • Press Windows Key + R, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter.
    • Navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer.
    • Check for any proxy-related policies that might be affecting your settings.

      Proxy Auto-Configuration (PAC) File:

If you're part of a network that deploys a PAC file, make sure it's correctly configured.

      Third-Party Software:

Certain third-party applications or VPN services might alter your proxy settings. Check if any such apps are causing conflicts.

      Network Adapter Settings:

Resetting network adapter settings can sometimes resolve proxy issues:
    • Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
    • Run the command: netsh Winsock reset.
    • Restart your PC.

      Additional Steps:

      • Event Viewer: Check Event Viewer for any related error messages that might offer clues about why the settings are changing.
      • Scheduled Tasks: Look for any scheduled tasks that might be triggering changes in proxy settings.
If the issue persists, consider reaching out to your IT department or a tech support professional for further assistance. Let me know if you need further guidance or if you have any other questions about this issue.
