I always use these two apps to keep my system from fits of narcolepsy.
anyway, my question is, I have both already setup in my startup applications. What command can I put in to automatically activate caffeine indicator?

any advice is greatly appreciated

Just installing and then running should add it to the indicator tray. I shall boot to Linux and test for you.

On installing just running the indicator works for me. Not using gnome but should work the same either way

Indeed but it's working in Cinnamon and the latest KDE for me. So I'll hazard a guess it'll work in gnome and it's in the official repos.

Gnome and KDE use different tool kits, so if it works in one it probably won't work in the other unless it supports both toolkits. KDE is QT based and Gnome is GTK+
