Solution
When you encounter issues connecting your Win7 Pro laptop to your office computer running Win7 Pro, while connecting from your WinXP Pro home computer works fine, there could be several reasons causing this problem. Here are some steps and considerations to resolve this issue:

Check Network Connectivity:

  1. Firewall Settings: Ensure that the Windows Firewall or any third-party firewall software is not blocking the connection between the Win7 Pro laptop and the office computer. You may need to create exceptions for Remote Desktop Connection.
  2. Network Configuration: Verify that both the Win7 Pro laptop and the office computer are on the same network or can communicate with each other across the network.

  2. Network Configuration: Verify that both the Win7 Pro laptop and the office computer are on the same network or can communicate with each other across the network.

    Remote Desktop Settings:

  3. Enable Remote Desktop: Make sure that Remote Desktop is enabled on the office computer. To check:
    • Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System > Remote settings.
    • Select "Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop (less secure)".
[]User Permissions: Ensure that your user account has permission to establish a remote connection to the office computer.

    Troubleshooting Steps:

]Check Remote Desktop Configuration: Verify the Remote Desktop settings on both the Win7 Pro laptop and the office computer to ensure they match the requirements for a successful connection. []Network Troubleshooting: Run network diagnostics to identify any network-related issues that might be preventing the connection. []Update Remote Desktop Client: Make sure that the Remote Desktop client on the Win7 Pro laptop is up to date. Outdated clients can sometimes cause connectivity issues.
  4. Restart Devices: A simple restart of both the Win7 Pro laptop and the office computer can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.

    Additional Considerations:

    • Network Speed: Ensure that the network speed on both ends is sufficient for a remote desktop connection.
    • VPN Configuration: If a VPN is required to connect to the office network, ensure that it is set up correctly on the Win7 Pro laptop.
By following these steps and ensuring that all settings are correctly configured, you should be able to establish a successful remote desktop connection from your Win7 Pro laptop to your office computer. If the issue persists, further troubleshooting may be necessary to pinpoint the exact cause of the problem.
