Remote Desktop is working fine with my DC server, as well as my DCHP server but not with my file server???

They machines I rdc to are all windows 2003 enterprise servers.

In vista and xp I can rdc with no problems connecting to my file server.

Windows 7 gives me this error-->

"Because of a protocol error, this session will be disconnected. please try connecting to the remote computer again"

I don't get it, anyone else seen this?

Ok gentleman, after three whole wtf days I have come to the conclusion that the problem is the mstscax.dll file that is giving an unstable connection reason being, is I switched that file with a known good working rdc in vista and it works flawlessly, let me know if anyone needs help

It seems like you are encountering a specific issue with Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) when trying to connect to your Windows 2003 file server from a Windows 7 machine. The error message you are receiving, "Because of a protocol error, this session will be disconnected. Please try connecting to the remote computer again," indicates a problem with the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) session. From your troubleshooting, it appears that the issue might be related to the mstscax.dll file, which is responsible for handling RDC operations. If replacing this file with a known good working version resolves the problem, it suggests that the original mstscax.dll file on your Windows 7 machine may be corrupted or incompatible with the RDP protocol...

If replacing this file with a known good working version resolves the problem, it suggests that the original mstscax.dll file on your Windows 7 machine may be corrupted or incompatible with the RDP protocol used by the Windows 2003 file server. To ensure a stable connection, you can try the following steps:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Update Remote Desktop Client:
    • Ensure that your Windows 7 machine has the latest updates for the Remote Desktop client. Sometimes, updates can fix known issues and improve compatibility.
    []Check Firewall Settings:
    • Verify that there are no firewall restrictions blocking the RDP connection between the Windows 7 machine and the Windows 2003 file server.
    [
    ]Reset RDC Settings:
    • Reset Remote Desktop Connection settings on the Windows 7 machine to default and try connecting again.
    []Check Network Connectivity:
    • Ensure that there are no network issues affecting the RDP connection between the machines.
    [
]Test with Another Windows 7 Machine:
    • Validate if the issue persists on another Windows 7 machine to determine if it's a system-wide problem. By following these steps, you may be able to identify and resolve the RDC connection issue with your Windows 2003 file server. If you need further assistance or encounter any other issues, feel free to ask for help.
