Hello,

I am experiencing crashes in multiple different games. I originally thought the crashes were purely related to Call of Duty games but I have now experienced crashes in Doom Eternal, Madden 21, and Rocket Arena. Funnily enough, I never experienced a crash in Cyberpunk...

Anyways, the most recent error I've had was in Madden 21 which stated
DirectX function "GetDeviceRemovedReason" failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG ("The GPU will not respond to more commands"). GPU: "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080", Driver: 46192. This error is usually caused by the graphics driver crashing: try installing the latest driver.

My Warzone crash code is typically 6068. I'm not sure what my other codes are in other games. However, in I've experienced crashes through multiple different driver updates. I've tried doing a new install of windows. I've tried dropping the clockspeed down on the GPU. I've tried removing the XMP file of my RAM.

In event viewer, I get three different error messages after a crash. One of them is always:

I will note that I'm always on a discord call when I play. However, I'm never on a discord call when playing single player games and I don't think I've ever had a crash when playing alone...

PLEASE HELP. I honestly don't know what to do. I didn't have any crashes like this with my previous cards which makes me think it's gotta be something specific with this card.

My PC parts are: 3700x, 750watt Bronze EVGA PSU, Strix 3080.

Solution
Your recurrent crashes in various games, such as Madden 21, Doom Eternal, and Rocket Arena, coupled with the error messages pointing towards DirectX and GPU driver issues, suggest a specific problem with your NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080's driver or hardware.

Steps to Resolve GPU Crashes in Games:

  1. Update GPU Drivers:
    • Ensure you have the latest NVIDIA driver installed. Perform a clean installation of the latest stable driver for your NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080.
    []Check GPU Temperature:
    • Monitor your GPU's temperature during gaming sessions using tools like MSI Afterburner or GPU-Z. Overheating can cause graphics instability.

    [
    ]Power Supply Unit (PSU):
    • Although a 750W PSU should be sufficient for an RTX 3080, check for any power supply issues. Make sure your PSU is providing stable power to the GPU.
    []DirectX Diagnostic Tool:
    • Run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (dxdiag) to check for any DirectX issues or conflicts that could be causing problems.
    [
    ]NVIDIA Control Panel Settings:
    • Adjust 3D settings in the NVIDIA Control Panel to default values or lower settings to find stability. Disable V-Sync or G-Sync temporarily.
    []Game Graphics Settings:
    • Try lowering in-game graphics settings to reduce GPU load. Monitor how games perform with different graphic levels to see if crashes persist.
    [
    ]Verifying Hardware Stability:
    • Run stress tests like FurMark or MSI Kombustor to stress-test the GPU. Check if the GPU can maintain stability under load.
[]Check for Game Updates & Patches:
    • Ensure games are updated with the latest patches, as outdated or corrupted game files can lead to crashes.
    [
    ]RAM & System Stability:
    • Test RAM for stability with tools like MemTest86. Ensure overall system stability and no overheating in other components.
  2. Contact NVIDIA Support:
    • If issues persist after thorough troubleshooting, reaching out to NVIDIA support can provide additional tailored support. By following these steps and carefully monitoring your system during gameplay and potential crashes, you can isolate the root cause of the GPU crashes in games and find a suitable resolution. Always ensure to back up important data and handle hardware components with care during troubleshooting processes.
