Windows 7 Select file with arrow keys

Hi, I usually use alt-arrow keys and Enter to navigate in Widows Explorer. But there is one really irritating feature. When you open a folder (with Enter) and press down arrow, the second file from the top will be highlighted. Since my folders are sorted on date modified and I usually want to open the most recent file I always have to press up arrow to select the file I want to open.

Is there a way to highlight the top file in a folder with the press on one button (not down arrow once and then up arrow)?

Still another key press, but if you hit spacebar after opening a directory with enter it will select the top item.
