Windows 7 Some icons broken in start menu and taskbar

Some of my icons are broken in the start menu but not broken on the taskbar, some are not broken in the start menu but broken on the taskbar, and some are broken in both. How do I fix this?

This should rebuild your icon cache:

Rebuilding the Icon Cache Database
1. Close all folder windows that are currently open.

2. Launch Task Manager using the CTRL+SHIFT+ESC key sequence, or by running taskmgr.exe.

3. In the Process tab, right-click on the Explorer.exe process and select End Process.

4. Click the End process button when asked for confirmation.

5. From the File menu of Task Manager, select New Task (Run…)

6. Type CMD.EXE, and click OK

7. In the Command Prompt window, type the commands one by one and press ENTER after each command:

CD /d %userprofile%\AppData\Local

DEL IconCache.db /a

EXIT

8. In Task Manager, click File, select New Task (Run…)

9. Type EXPLORER.EXE, and click OK.

Let me know if it doesn't help any..

lol it seems like all i had to do was close explorer.exe and start it again and it worked.

HI How you doing. I have just developed this problem with broken icons and havd tried what you said but to no effect

What else can I try.

As well as deleting the iconcache.db, delete your Thumbnail cache files with the Disk Cleanup Utility (Press Start, (My) Computer, Right click C: Drive (your Main or System Drive), Properties, Click on the Disk Clean Up button). Thumbnails is one of the options you can choose to clean up. Re-boot.

Could you give some examples (program names) of what is broken, what isn't?

I usually find more and more corrupted icons from Messengers applications like Windows Live Msn or Yahoo Messenger
After using the solution from kemical icons work again like they should
