Hi,

Is there an easy way to sort files/folders using multiple criteria--say by
size, date and folder for instance? A free utility perhaps?

and/or

An easy way to capture the data in Wins' file explorer (view=detail) that I
can bring into EXCEL?

Thanks,

Rusty

Hi Rusty, Sorting files and folders using multiple criteria and capturing data from Windows File Explorer into Excel can be made simpler with some free utilities and built-in features. Here are some suggestions:

Sorting Files/Folders Using Multiple Criteria:

  • FreeCommander:
  • FreeCommander is a free file manager software that allows for advanced file sorting based on multiple criteria like size, date, and folders.
  • It provides a dual-panel interface for easy navigation and management of files.
  • You can download FreeCommander from its official website: https://freecommander.com/en/summary/. [*Q-Dir:

Capturing Data from Windows File Explorer to Excel:

To capture data from Windows File Explorer in detail view and bring it into Excel, you can follow these steps: [*Select the Files/Folders:
  • Open Windows File Explorer and navigate to the folder containing the files you want to capture.
  • Switch the view to "Details" to see the file attributes. [*Select and Copy Data:
  • Select the files/folders you want to capture, including the details like file size, date, etc.
  • Right-click on the selected items and choose "Copy" or press Ctrl + C. [*Paste into Excel:
  • Open Excel and select the cell where you want to paste the data.
  • Right-click and choose "Paste" or press Ctrl + V to paste the copied file details into Excel.
  • Adjust Formatting:
  • You may need to adjust the formatting in Excel to organize the data properly, like separating file attributes into different columns. By following these steps, you can bring the file details from Windows File Explorer into Excel for further analysis or organization. I hope this information helps! Let me know if you need further assistance or have any other questions.
