Hi Folks,

I have an issue i need assistance with. I have a VGN-N130G. It came with XP (MCE). Installed W7 the other day.

It seems to have an issue at start up. It goes into the Windows start up screen and just gets stuck there. It did the same with XP and now its doing the same with the W7 too. I did a clean install. Once it gets stuck in the start up nothing can be done except holding down the power key and then re-starting. I m really at a loss as to how to go about fixing it as I thought a clean install would kinda do the trick..

Any assistance is much appreciated.

Thanks

It looks like you're facing a startup issue with your Sony VAIO VGN-N130G after installing Windows 7. If the problem existed with Windows XP as well, it might indicate a hardware or compatibility issue rather than just a software problem. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the startup problem:

Steps to Troubleshoot the Startup Issue:

  1. Safe Mode Boot:
    • Try booting into Safe Mode:
      • Restart your computer and continuously press the F8 key during startup.
      • In the Advanced Boot Options menu, select "Safe Mode" and press Enter.
    []Check Hardware Compatibility:
    • Ensure that your hardware components are compatible with Windows 7. Check Sony's official website for...

    ]Update Drivers:
    • Make sure all drivers are up to date, especially graphics and chipset drivers. Outdated drivers can cause startup issues.
    []Startup Repair:
    • Boot from a Windows 7 installation disc and choose "Repair your computer" then "Startup Repair" to fix any startup issues automatically.
    [
    ]BIOS Update:
    • Check if there's a BIOS update available for your laptop on Sony's website. Updating the BIOS can sometimes resolve compatibility issues.
    []Check Disk for Errors:
    • Run a disk check to identify and fix any disk errors:
      • Open Command Prompt as administrator and type chkdsk /f /r then restart your computer.
    [
    ]System File Checker:
    • Run the System File Checker tool to scan and repair corrupted system files:
      • Open Command Prompt as administrator and type sfc /scannow.
    []Memory Check:
    • Check for memory issues by running the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool:
      • Open the Start menu, type "memory diagnostic", and select the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool.
    [
    ]Hardware Inspection:
    • Check for any physical damage or loose connections, especially with the hard drive and RAM.

      Next Steps:

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, consider reaching out to Sony support or a professional technician for further assistance. Sometimes, complex hardware issues may require specialized attention. Feel free to try the troubleshooting steps and let me know if you encounter any specific error messages or if you need further guidance.
