most of these drivers pre-date windows 7 release and definitely need replacing
  • SiWinAcc.sys is your SATALink Accelerator Drive

SynTP.sys is your Synaptics TouchPad Driver
stwrt64.sys is possibly related to SigmaTel High Definition Audio Codec
RTSTOR64.SYS is a driver for your Realtek USB 2.0 Card Reader
LMIRfsDriver.sys is another driver component in LogMeIn
    adfs.SYS Thu Jun 26 16:52:37 2008 - Adobe File System driver

you will need to go to all of the manufacturers websites and update all of these drivers if you want to achevie stability with your system ........

If you need any help please post your system specifications such as manufacturer make and model and I'm sure we can help point you in the right direction ;)

Thank you for all of your help. This is by far one of the most helpful forums on the web.

I have been to my specific support page on Gateway's website that has all my computers drivers and have spoken to Gateway. And they said all the drivers on my computer are designed to work with my computer and there is no need to update the drivers as it can cause problems. What they said sounded idiotic. Basically I have only been continually upgrading my graphics card as I play PC games often. I have used the "check for drivers" automatically feature in the Device Manager and it always says my drivers are up to date, so like I said I have never upgraded any drivers besides graphics card, since 2008 when I got the computer. Any links / tips on the best way to upgrade all of these drivers would be greatly appreciated.

My computer specs are as follows:
Gateway P-173X FX laptop
Core 2 Duo 2.2GHZ processor
4 gigs ram
nividia 8800m gts graphics card
Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit - upgrade from Vista ultimate 64 bit

Excellent post icky.. 'Bow's to the master'.... :)

aww shucks thnx for the compliment

whoever answered the phone to you and said "there is no need to update the drivers as it can cause problems" is definitely new in first line support and shouldn't be making comments like that, I think I would have asked for a manager and asked for some competent answers to how gateway intend on maintaining the compatibility of their products , OR where they suggesting but not actually stating that this notebook is not windows 7 compatible ?

can you please run the windows 7 upgrade advisor to check your hardware compatibility and give us an idea if we aren't just "flogging a dead horse" ?

I did take a look at the gateway support site and they don't list any windows 7 drivers for your notebook but the vista 64 bit files are a newer version than you have , for instance the synaptics touchpad driver found here is 9/17/2008 which makes it 8 months newer than the one your using .................

It looks like it's going to prove difficult to find the right drivers, if they even exist for your notebook ? ........ so to start the process please download and run the free version of SIW and click file save as HTML report and upload here, and we can pick through your devices and goto the manufacturers websites to check for drivers :p

windows upgrade advisor is saying
  1. Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Not compatible This version of the program will not work on Windows 7.
  2. Steam version 1.0.0.0 Valve Update available We don't have compatibility information about this version of the program. Get an update to a compatible version
  3. Windows Live Messenger version 8.1.0178.00 Microsoft Corporation Update available We don't have compatibility information about this version of the program. Get an update to a compatible version
so grab this here
steam and windows live messenger version well google will solve that for you ;)

i have run out of time again with my teenager pestering me for food so keep at it with google , can you post a list for the devices you have updated ?

essentially stop 0x9f is usually caused by a driver that doesn't support coming out of sleep mode, so if we can replace all the old drivers you have a chance you can eliminate the crash

have you crashed since the last bluescreens ?

ok I have looked through your SIW report and with some searching i recommend ............

unninstall logmein unless you really need it ?
unninstall RemotelyAnywhere ?
disable agere systems modem in the bios !

research ;-
PxHlpa64.sys possibly belongs to the software PxHelp or PxHlpa by Sonic Solutions possibly installed by winamp as a DVD burner filter driver possibly unninstall or remove filter driver ?
dont think you can update realtek usb 2.0 card reader so try with this unplugged for a while.
update satalink driver ?
update sigmatel high def audio codec ?
update synaptics touchpad driver ?
update for chicony usb 2.0 webcam is not supported outside of the latest gateway drivers < a likely candidate !!

adfs.SYS Thu Jun 26 16:52:37 2008 - Adobe File System driver have a look at the age of your adobe installations ??

my conclusion is there really is no support for your laptop from gateway and or the devices to work under windows 7

if you do get to talk to gateway support again you need to ask them ;-

  1. Is this laptop "Gateway P-173X FX laptop" supported under windows 7 ?
  2. one of my devices in the list above does not support resume from sleep in the driver do they have a fix ?

N.B. in this case I don't think it's an issue but be aware Norton 360 can cause problems and it might be an idea to try removing it at least temporarily if all else fails ?

I use avira which can be a bit overzealous or MSE on many customers pc's and had no virus issues yet , but MSE is the most stable :)

How would I go about to "disable agere systems modem in the bios !" I think the bios is the black screen you get to by holding F8 instartup I just don't know where to go once i am in there and would not want to screw anything up. sorry my windows 7 skills aren't the best.

Normally pressing F8 whilst booting gets you into the advanced boot options. Try pressing either F2 or 'Delete' or watch the very first boot screen and you should see it listed (the button or key sequence to use).
Once in the Bios you can navigate using the arrows on the keyboard and to access a category, press enter. To leave or exit a category, press 'Escape'.
The above will perhaps be found in the latter categories?

as Kemical said it's accessed in the first few seconds of turning your system on by pressing F2 or delete repeatedly until your in

then it's a simple screen navigated with keyboard only, important keys are the arrow keys and page up, page down and return and escape

the last action you want to do is go to the last page on your bios and save your changes and exit

if you think you've changed something you should not have then simply exit without changes and then re enter bios screen
