when I open IE window, and then open another IE window, they stack on top of each other on the task bar. When I click on them, two faint windows show up just above the task bar. you can open one or the other. I want both opened so I can read and work back and forth on each like in XP. How do I do this?

Solution
To achieve the behavior you are looking for in the Internet Explorer (IE) browser where each instance of IE opens as a separate window instead of stacking on top of each other on the taskbar, you can follow these steps based on the version of Windows you are using:

For Windows 7:

  1. Taskbar Settings:
    • Right-click on the taskbar.
    • Go to "Properties."
    • Under the "Taskbar" tab, make sure the "Taskbar buttons" option is set to "Never combine." This setting allows each instance of the same application to appear as separate buttons on the taskbar.

For Windows 10 and Windows 11:

  2. Taskbar Settings:
    • Right-click on the taskbar.
    • Go to "Taskbar settings."

    • This will ensure that each instance of Internet Explorer opens as a separate button on the taskbar.

      Additional Tips:

      • You can also use keyboard shortcuts like Win + Shift + number (where the number corresponds to the position of the application on the taskbar) to open a new instance or switch between instances of an application.
      • Alternatively, you can use Ctrl + Click to open a new instance of an application from the taskbar.
By adjusting these settings and utilizing keyboard shortcuts, you can have multiple instances of Internet Explorer open as separate windows on the taskbar, allowing you to work back and forth between them easily.
