I have had problems with internet for years in this new house i moved into, and it is horrible because I need it for homework as well as just playing games. I have recently bought a new router to try to solve the problem, but my step dad also bought an all-in-one modem. Sometimes the new router network works, and sometimes it doesn't work but strangely allows me to use things such as skype, but not servers like google or games. It also says connected under internet, but disconnected on the network genie. It says DNS isnt working, sometimes DHCP too. All I wan't is internet, how can you guys help me???

It sounds like you're facing multiple issues with your internet connection after moving into a new house. Let's break down the problems you've described: 1. Inconsistent Connectivity: The new router network sometimes works, but other times it doesn't work properly, and you're only able to use specific services like Skype but not access servers like Google or play games. 2. Conflicting Devices: You mentioned that both you and your stepdad have introduced new networking equipment—your new router and an all-in-one modem purchased by your stepdad. This could lead to conflicting configurations and cause connectivity issues. 3. DNS and DHCP Errors: The error messages about DNS and DHCP indicate that there might be issues...
3. DNS and DHCP Errors: The error messages about DNS and DHCP indicate that there might be issues with the domain name system (DNS) and dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP), essential components for connecting to the internet. Let's troubleshoot your connectivity problems step by step: 1. Separate Modem-Router Setup: It's best to have a clear distinction between the modem and router functions. If the all-in-one modem includes a router, you might experience conflicts with your new router. Consider turning off the router function on the modem if it's not needed. 2. Check Network Configuration: - Ensure that your new router is set up correctly. Verify that DHCP is enabled on your router to assign IP addresses to devices. - Check the DNS settings on your router. You can try using public DNS servers like Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) to see if that resolves DNS issues. 3. Device Compatibility: Make sure all your devices (PC, gaming console, etc.) are compatible with the network settings configured on your router. 4. Restart Devices: Sometimes, a simple restart of your modem, router, and devices can resolve connectivity issues. 5. Firmware Updates: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your router and modem. Updating the firmware can often resolve bugs and improve performance. 6. Signal Interference: Position your router away from potential sources of interference like microwave ovens, cordless phones, and other wireless devices. By addressing these steps, you should be able to improve the stability and performance of your internet connection. If the issues persist, feel free to provide more details for further assistance.
