Windows 10 Troubleshooting CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMER BSOD in Civ 5 After Recent Windows Update

When playing CIV 5 offline I will get a CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMER BSOD.

Windows 10 Pro version 10.0.15063 Build 15063
MSI GeoForce GTX 1060 X 6G Gaming
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz
2x DDR4 8192 MB 2133 C14 Series Patriot (PDP Systems) PVE416G213C4KGY
ASUS Maximus VIII Ranger ROG
Samsung V-NAND SSD 850 EVO 250GB
WDC WD1003FZEX-00MKA0
HL-DT-ST BD-RE BH16NS40
Samsung SyncMaster 204B
TT Suppressor T31

I really need to learn how to analyze these failures myself;does a teaching page exists somewhere?

I tried running WinDbg but all I get is "GetContextState failed" and "Unable to get".

I never had a BSOD problem with Elite Dangerous?

The BSOD, so far, only seems to happen while running with CIV 5 and started after the last major windows update?

Its fixed , Yahoo! It was the Intel Watch Dog Timer Driver that needed to be fixed? I finally got a Windows 10 System message that reported that the driver was not properly installed? I am not really sure how to locate that driver to up its version or how windows 10 re-installed it? Windows Updater does not really work on my computer, continually trying to do hourly updates, unless I put it in Windows 10 Update mode and run it.

Debugger is playing up so i'm downloading the symbols to try and helps things along.. It will take some time..

I managed to bypass the problem?

Windows defender and browser security were some how disabled?

I enabled them and have not seen this BSOD since, which had been occurring like clockwork, knock on wood.

I doubt this is the actual problem?

Windows Updater and NVidia Updater running concurrently may or may not have trashed up the Windows 10 registry during the last major update, after which the BSOD started to happen?

Windows Update Troubleshooter reports every time I run it that registry values are missing and then reports that it is fixing them, which apparently it doesn't?

Try these scans:
File scans
Right click on the Start menu icon and from the revealed list choose 'admin command prompt'. Type:
sfc /scannow
press enter and await results

In the same command prompt and after the above scan has finished type:
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
Press enter and await results (longer this time).

If the first scan found files it could not repair but the second scan is successful, run the first scan again using the same command prompt box and this time it should repair the files found.

Rats, two days BSOD free and its back.

1: The sound card makes funny clicking sounds during the BSOD dump.
2. The BSOD dump has also crashed once, but only once (like froze forever at 83%).

note: ASUS Maximus VIII Ranger BIOS is 1601 and the latest posted by ASUS is 2001?

I decided to check ASUS website and was shocked to see how many BIOS updates have been released and were labeled as system stability.

Do you think I should do it. I always thought bios was just to boot up the OS?

Hi,
apologies about not getting back to you sooner.

Well bios updates either frighten people to death or some just get on with it.

Your biggest danger when flashing the bios is if the machine is turned off mid-flash.

This can brick the motherboard and render it useless.

It's always desirable to be on the latest Bios as they contain firmware updates and the like.

If your a little nervous about flashing the bios then either ask a friend who has experience or take it to the local pc store and get them to do it for you.

Flashing the BIOS is a breeze, its other complications that may or may not occur that are an issue.

I had one bios update that required the boot strap be redone.

I guess I will have to do it.

I am doing Witcher 2 and its working fine.

Sorry. ASUS doesn't provide information about the USB drive.

My 8 gigabyte Patriot USB drive has security firmware on it, that might possibly interfere with BIOS access?
My 2 gigabyte Kingston drive, has no firmware and has worked on every type of system I ever encountered (Sun, Unix, Windows).

I just found the USB today. I haven't used it in a while.

Down loaded "MAXIMUS-VIII-RANGER-ASUS-3401.CAP" and saved it as "M8R.CAP".

I have formatted the USB from FAT to FAT 32 and put "M8R.CAP" on it.
I really hate updating the BIOS. I never really had a problem except that once the MBR needed to be redone.

I have fixed my old XP computer.just in case the bios update on my new windows 10 computer fails.
The Creative Labs Sound Blaster (SB0730) heat sink fell off when it became unglued and blew the power supply..

Glue on a heat sink?

I guess I will try flashing it tomorrow. Its to late tonight, but I am prepared..

BIOS Flashed from 1601 to 3401.

I seem to be having problems detecting the GeoForce GTX 1060.

The BIOS setting Primary Display = Auto no longer seems to be working?

The other two options are IGFX and PEG.
The manual, now out of date, lists PCIE as a third option, which is missing.

I have read that PCI-E and PEG are the same thing.
This MB does not have IGFX.

I want to solve the CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMER BSOD problem and I seem to be off on a tangent.

This now might be called something else like 'on board graphics' much like how PCIE has changed to PEG above.

Something that can be extremely useful is looking at the motherboards user forum (if it has one). Many top end boards will have dedicated forums with invaluable information regarding bioses and general information (usually found in the stickies).

Ultimately if you don't find what your looking for with this bios then you can always flash to an earlier version but I'm sure once you've explored it fully and noted changes all will be fine.

One way to see if the machine is detecting your card properly is to open the run cmd and type 'dxdiag' without the quotes. Please do this and post the results, thank you.
