Windows 7 Troubleshooting Frequent PC Crashes: Memory Errors on Refurbished HP Pavilion Notebook

I'm fairly pc literate, but I swear when it comes to repairing my own pc I kind of have some difficulties so please bear with me.


I just bought this pc and received it no Wednesday. Since using it, it has crashed 1-2 times every day. The common errors I gets are system_service_exception and pfn_list_corrupt and one that read memory_management.

From what I gathered it was either my drivers or my memory. So I ran a memory diagnostic test, and it came up with hardware problems both times but when I restarted my pc the first so that it would tell me the errors, my pc crashed immediately with a pfn_list_corrupt error. When I ran it a second time my PC started normally but nothing ever read off to me what the problem was.

I have an HP Pavillion Notebook and am using Windows 7 64-bit with 4 gb of RAM. Any ideas or troubleshooting I can do to better evaluate and fix this problem? I really need this notebook for college soon.

AVG is known for memory corruption crashes. Please uninstall it in safe mode using the special tool found here:

AV Uninstallers - Windows 7 Forums

I recommend MSE as a replacement as it never causes bsod and is resource friendly.

That's the Intel storage driver. Please visit their site and let the scan utility find and install the latest drivers:

If for some reason it doesn't install the newest storage driver, you can get it from your motherboard's website, from the manufacturer.

These other drivers should be Googled to find what they are and to get the latest versions of them to instal. Manufacturer's sites...

Hey.

Please go to C:\Windows\Minidump

Copy the files in there to any other folder. Then zip them. Attach the zip to a post using the paperclip above where you type, in advanced mode reply.

We can see the stop errors like this.

I attempted to do that but the files won't allow me to. I even used the 'Take Ownership' command on them all. When I try to do so it comes up as 'file not found or no read permission'

Unless you plan to be very particular about updating them all, I'd suggest a clean install of Windows while performing a format during.

Thank you for the advice on AVG. I uninstalled it and installed Internet Suite Security instead (it came with a free year with my pc).

The drivers I have to call my manufacturer about because Intel did not recognize them properly and I'd like to see what they suggest as they didn't send me the Windows 7 discs or anything.
